Types of Care and Care Settings
Many people think of nursing homes when they hear "long term care" but in reality, most care is provided in the home by family members.
There are basically 3 types of care:
- Skilled - nursing or other care provided on a regular basis by licensed medical professionals
- Intermediate - less specialized than skilled care, provided under the supervision of a skilled professional
- Custodial Care - provides assistance with daily activities usually provided by non-skilled assistants
You may receive your care in a variety of settings:
- Home Health Care
- Adult Day Care Centers
- Assisted-living Facilities
- Nursing Homes
- Alzheimer's Centers
- Hospice Home or Facility care
It is important to have control over the choices we will have to make when dealing with the challenges of failing health.
